The Down East Alers Open Homebrew Competition

The Down East Alers announce the 6th Annual DEA Challenge Open Homebrew Competition will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2006. The competition is an AHA/BJCP registered event open to all homebrewers. We will be accepting all BJCP styles per the 2004 guidelines released July 2004. Rules will be the same as those used in the AHA National competition. This event will be a qualifying event for the Carolinas Homebrewer of the Year.

Entry requirements: 2 bottles for beer or 1 bottle for meads, 12 to 22 ounce, brown or green with no markings, caps plain or blacked out, no flip-top styles. Entry fee is $6 for the 1st entry and $5 for additional entries. The entry deadline is end of day Saturday, May 27. Judges/stewards/participants may hand carry entries only if they are pre-registered and pre-paid by the entry deadline and delivered to the competition site before 9:00 a.m. at competition temperatures.

The competition will be held at the Cherry Oaks Recreational Club: 206 Beth Street, Greenville, NC 27858. Click here for directions.

Registration opens at 8:30 & competition starts promptly at 10:00. Lunch will be served to all judges, stewards, and participants. The competition is scheduled to be complete by 5:00, with awards following. A raffle of prizes will be held during the Best of Show Judging. All entries not in Best of Show will be available for tasting after the competition.

A special request: We will need as many out-of-town certified judges and experienced non-certified judges as possible. We are a very small club (13 members) and need your support. We will be able to put up a limited number of folks from out of town in our homes who make the trek to support the DEA Challenge, if we know in advance that you wish to stay over with club members.
